Questions
Do tags still matter for ranking?
Much less than they used to — YouTube says tags mainly help with common misspellings. Title and description carry the discovery weight; tags are a small safety net.
Is the 500 limit per tag or in total?
Total — every tag plus every comma shares one 500-character budget. The counter shows the combined figure for exactly that reason.
How many tags should I use?
Enough to cover misspellings and close synonyms — usually a handful. Tags that mislead are ignored, and padding past relevance buys nothing.
