TranscriptLab turns YouTube videos and media files into text. This policy explains what we collect when you use transcriptlab.dev, the TranscriptLab API, or the TranscriptLab plugin in ChatGPT, why we collect it, who we share it with, and how long we keep it. TranscriptLab, Inc. is responsible for the personal data described here.

Information we collect

Account information. When you sign in, our authentication provider gives us your email address, your name if the provider has one, and a unique account identifier. We never see or store your password.

Content you submit. The media files you upload, the links and video identifiers you ask us to transcribe, and the transcripts we produce from them.

Usage records. Which transcripts were delivered to your account, credits consumed, job status, and timestamps. We use these to run your plan and show your library.

Technical data. Your IP address, request identifiers, and error details in server logs, used for rate limiting, abuse prevention, and debugging.

How we use it

  • To fetch captions, transcribe your media, and return the result to you.
  • To keep your transcript library and let you search it.
  • To meter credits and enforce plan limits.
  • To detect and prevent abuse, and to debug failures.
  • To answer support requests you send us.

Who we share it with

We do not sell personal information, and we do not use your content to train models. We share data with service providers that process it on our behalf, and only what their part of the job requires:

  • Hosting and storage providers, which run the API and hold media, transcripts, and usage records.
  • Our authentication provider, which verifies your sign-in and issues the tokens your session uses.
  • Our payment processor, which handles purchases as merchant of record. Payment card details go to them, not to us.
  • Caption and speech-to-text providers, which retrieve captions or transcribe media you supply.

When you use the plugin in ChatGPT, your request passes through OpenAI as the host of the conversation. We may also disclose information where the law requires it.

How long we keep it

Source files you upload are cleared from storage on a rolling three-day schedule. Media fetched from a link you provide is kept for the transcript it produced, and you can ask us to remove it.

Transcripts and video identifiers stay in your library until you delete them or ask us to delete your account. Billing records are kept as long as tax and accounting rules require. Server logs are kept for a short period for abuse prevention and debugging.

Your choices

You can delete transcripts from your library at any time. To delete your account and the data attached to it, to have a source file or a log entry removed, or to ask for a copy or correction of your information, email us at hello@transcriptlab.dev and we will act on the request.

Security

Traffic is encrypted in transit, access to stored media and transcripts is scoped to your account, and uploads use short-lived signed links. No system is perfect, so we cannot promise absolute security.

Children

TranscriptLab is not intended for children, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 13.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes in a material way, we will update the date above and, where appropriate, tell you in the product.
