Questions
Why 42 characters?
42 is the common broadcast ceiling for a subtitle line. Anything 32–50 reads comfortably; pick the width your target player documents.
Does it change cue timing?
No. Only the text inside each cue is rewrapped. Start and end times are untouched.
What happens to a word longer than the limit?
It keeps its own line — wrapping only breaks at spaces, never inside a word. URLs and long hashtags stay intact.
